Afternoon Delight with the Gym Bros at KYN

I went back to visit my gym bros at KYN, this time for a little afternoon delight.

Lunch was not nearly as packed as dinner, but it was every bit as much fun. The daytime menu is pared down, which makes sense given the lighter crowd and slower pacing. KYN serves what arrives fresh from its suppliers rather than pretending every fish must be available every day. What they had was impeccably fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and further proof that our first excellent meal was not a fluke.

The salmon and tuna handrolls were every bit as good as we remembered, and the scallops were perfectly fresh. Lunch also brought a salmon roe handroll that delivered a sharp burst of salt and wasabi, exactly the kind of clean, bracing bite that makes you immediately reach for another. I loved it. The unagi rounded things out with something richer and more deeply savory.

This is the advantage of KYN’s smaller lunch menu. It is not trying to promise the same fish every day. The kitchen works with what arrives from its suppliers, serves it at its best, and trusts the freshness to carry the meal.

The team was once again exceptionally friendly and eager to please, with the same relaxed hospitality that made dinner so much fun. Lunch also represented excellent value. KYN is not inexpensive food, but it is remarkably reasonable for seafood of this quality, particularly when everything arrives this fresh.

The room was calmer, the pacing was relaxed, and the food was just as playful and delicious. KYN at lunch does not feel like a diminished version of dinner. It feels like an easier, quieter, and less expensive opportunity to let the gym bros feed you. (And also enjoy their wonderful yuzu-ade).

The calmer room, approachable prices, and genuinely welcoming service may make lunch the easiest way to begin your own affair with the gym bros.
